The dwellers of Nerang, a Gold Coast suburb, may stop boiling their drinking, as the E. coli scare is over. They were warned last Friday to consume only boiled water as the high levels of E. coli may put about 25000 families at risk.
According to Queensland Health, the water supplies in the Gold Coast periphery are safe to drink now.
However, as per what GCW chair, Daphne McDonald says, more tests will be conducted over the coming week.
She said, “The alert has now been lifted and residents in the affected areas can return to drinking the town water supplies without needing to boil the water first”.
Though, the reason behind the contamination hasn’t been verified yet, but the water quality testing and internal inspections of reservoirs have showed that the quality of drinking water was five and is within the guideline limits.
Out of precaution, a few residents in some specific areas of Nerang were asked to boil drinking water as it was advised by Queensland Health.
The areas that were affected were Nerang properties west of the railway line and north of the Nerang River, according to Ms. MacDonald. She revealed that water from the rest of Gold Coast is safe to drink.
