The Global Fund, an international funding establishment, has, since 2003 rolled in, has reportedly donated $400 Million to Nigeria with the aim of effectively fighting AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in the area.

The fact was revealed by Marcela Rojo, a media officer of the fund, in a recent interview. She also informed that donor and receipt nation is all set for a meeting which is to take place in New York in October.

As has been revealed by her, the meeting is important for achieving the deadline for the Millennium Development Goals, which is now less than half-a-decade away.

"We have approved $800m worth of funding for Nigeria to fight the three diseases since 2003 and we have disbursed about half that amount to date (about $400m)", said Ms. Rojo.

A document titled "Portfolio of grants-Nigeria and the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria", which was recently publicly released, has managed to reveal that starting 2003, Nigeria had placed a request for $669,596,261 to fight AIDS, and out of this, the agency approved $229,946,468, while $142,149,242 was disbursed.

In addition, $502,603,078 was sought to fight malaria, and a request for $63,740,481 was made for the battle against tuberculosis, both of which were approved.
