Renal Damage May Lead to Neuro and Cardio Vascular Problems

Complications arising out of renal disorders may lead to neuro and cardio vascular problems.

Information from the National Chronic Kidney Disease Registry exposes that 96% of kidney patients develop cardiovascular problems towards the later stages of the disease.

CKD or chronic kidney disease is a critical condition which progresses into complete renal failure. A principle cause of CKD is diabetes. Dr. SNS Yadav of Balrampur Hospital discloses, "Diabetes affects blood vessels and the filtering mechanism of kidneys. Malfunctioning blood vessels affect vessels in the heart and the brain".

Specialists appraising the cardio-renal syndrome believe that the problems of the heart and kidney are interconnected. This implies that cardio- vascular problems can be hastened by damaged kidneys and vice versa.

It is important to note that when kidneys stop working, the level of toxins increase in the body. This affects the functioning of the heart.

In India, CKD is reaching epidemic proportions. The reason behind this pandemic is that treatment for the disorder is expensive. Dialysis or transplantation cannot be afforded by 90% of patients in the country.

The Government estimates that yearly 200000 people reach fatal kidney failure besides the millions who are afflicted with less severe kidney diseases.
