Twitter, a social networking website, would be visited more than its competitors due to the leakage of the important draft document which mentions the agenda and the venue of the subsequent round of Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. The document, which states on its cover "should not yet be made public", discloses Intercontinental Hotel in Wellington from April 12 to 16 as the venue.
Clare Curran, spokesperson from Labor communications and IT said, "The secrecy of the ACTA negotiations was cause for concern. Any cross-country copyright and intellectual property policy decisions could have serious implications for New Zealand, which risked losing sovereignty if a new multi-national organization was set up to oversee enforcement".
She further added that all the countries which are party to the act have to agree to the agenda and amendments before the content of the meeting are publicly released. The main aim of ACTA was to develop an international regime to struggle against forged and copyright breach and has been secretly negotiating among the main countries such as US, EU, Australia, Mexico, Japan and New Zealand. The list of agenda included Border measures, Criminal measures, Civil enforcements which have been leaked in the document.
