The fact that a pregnant female's male partner also suffers few pregnancy symptoms is certainly enticing.
It may be tough to understand, that a female system which is going through huge hormonal changes within her body can also generate similar symptoms in her partner's body that is far too away from the change.
Recently, Waikato University's Irene Lightwark conducted a 70 days research which revealed that men from New Zealand also suffer from Couvade Syndrome. It's known as "pregnant dad syndrome" in a lay man's language.
The syndrome is said to have originated from a Medieval French tradition.
According to a survey conducted on 400 men and women from the Waikato, the present men also seem to undergo few changes like craving for food, weight gain, headaches, constipation, toothaches and even labor pains.
They also suffer gastro-intestinal problems, which worsen through the first and third trimesters.
Cambridge Antenatal Educator, Lightwark said that up to 90 per cent of men in the US and 30-60 per cent in Europe undergo the syndrome. He stated that the issue was "no joke" and it was not appropriate to put it down to "attention-seeking".
"I want to raise awareness that it's a real thing that happens to some men", he added.
