Pianist Ben Folds performed live on ChatRoulette during a concert in an "Ode to Merton", the recently casted YouTube celebrity, who several think was in fact Folds.

After posting his "Chat Roulette Funny Piano Improv" clip on YouTube, Merton soon became the new voyeuristic webcam chat service's leading star. The clip that has now been viewed by nearly four million viewers, displays Merton singing a song around the random people he's chatting with on the site.

There were reports from blogs and entertainment websites that the YouTube genius was in fact Folds who was masquerade, but these reports were abandoned by a humble Merton, who said, "Ben is a much better pianist".

Folds obviously caught hold of Merton's video and in reaction performed an "Ode to Merton" in front of 2000 audiences at a concert in North Carolina on Saturday.

In a clip of the performance posted on YouTube, Folds is wearing nearly the same costume that Merton wore in his clip and singing his own ChatRoulette piano. A laptop can be seen placed on top of Folds' piano and the spectators in North Carolina sings along.

Meanwhile, last week, online measurement company, comScore released figures revealing that in US alone, ChatRoulette's audience had "exploded" from 109,000 unique visitors in January to 960,000 in February.

While in Australia, exclusive visitors to the website soared five-fold from 18,000 in January to 97,000 in February.
