Chrysler's Phoenix engine, officially known as the Pentastar V6, is ready to hit the markets.
According to Chrysler's claims, the new Pentastar V6 is the most improved V-6 engine in the organization's history. Pentastar V6 will substitute as much as 7 existing Chrysler V6 engines used in the group's cars. The first application of this engine will be in the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is scheduled for Q2 this year. More variations with superior technology, like Fiat Multi-Air, direct injection and turbo charging, will join later in order for it to swap larger engines.
But as of now, there is a 3.6 liter usually aspirated V6 that makes 290 horsepower at 6,350rpm and 353Nm of torque at 4,300rpm, which represents an enrichment of 38% in horsepower and 11%in torque over its ancestor while giving a 11% fuel economy enhancement.
It is a twin cam engine with a high-pressure die-cast aluminum cylinder block in a 60-degree configuration and a redline of 7,200rpm. 90% of its maximum torque, over 300Nm, is offered amid 1,800 to 6,350 rpm, which is quite impressive and it's also E85 flexfuel competent. Alfa Romeos and Lancias will also make use of this engine.
