A study undertaken by the Research Laboratories at the Catholic University of Campobasso, Italy, has revealed that a temperate amount of alcohol when taken regularly can prove beneficial for those who have suffered heart attacks or other ischemic vascular events in their lives previously.
The researchers have defined temperate amount as one or maximum two glasses of wine, beer or other alcoholic beverages, per day.
The study was published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. It undertook the statistic process involving an analysis, combining varied studies worldwide resulting into more precise results.
The study examined patients in United States, Sweden, Japan and Great Britain, who were found to be already affected by an ischemic vascular event. Throughout the commencement of the disease, the researchers kept track of the patients' lifestyle, including the consumption of alcohol.
In the meta-analysis, they combined all the results yielded from the analysis on a total of 16,351 people.
Simona Costanzo, epidemiologist and first author of the study, "We examined that regular and moderate consumption has beneficial effects even for people already affected by heart attack, or stroke".
Simona further said that these people are now not only less prone to similar heart ailments but also at a reduced risk of mortality caused from any other disease in contrast with those who are do not consume alcohol at all.
