On Tuesday, with the aim to provide better privacy to patients in the hospitals, stylish new "snap down the side" gowns were unveiled across Britain. These new gowns would phase out the shapeless sack-type clothing items that did not provide the apt privacy and, more often than not, had loose ties.
Designers of the new gowns were given a total of 25,000 Pounds ($37,500) each to come up with prototypes for products that would end up increasing patient dignity. The new plan, which was backed by the Government in addition to the Design Council, aimed to utilize British design talent to in-part improve its often criticized health system.
The most eye catching and interesting design was put forward was by US-born fashion designer Ben de Lisi, which was made from the highest quality cotton. The pattern was a classic pajama-stripe one, and it included a pouch for a mobile phone as well. In addition, the gown came equipped with a soft fleece blanket.
"Fine feathers make fine birds. If you look good, you'll feel good. Patients in hospitals are at their very lowest ebb, and you want them confident and buoyant so they can ask doctors the questions they need to ask", said de Lisi, who has made celebrities like Kate Winslet glow in his creations.
