A group of doctors in a private hospital in Chennai conducted simultaneous heart transplants on two males, recently. The two receivers had less than six months to live, but after getting operated, they have been recovering in a much better way.

A famous heart transplant specialist, K. M Cherian, who is also the Chairman and CEO of the Frontier Lifeline Hospital, said that they were challenged to retrieve the hearts from two different hospitals and make them available in their hospital. He also said that one could have the proficiency, experience, and techniques available to them, but more than this, fate is required to save a life.

The two patients had been registered by FLH, aged 22 and 32, respectively. They were registered to undergo an operation for carcass heart transplant. The force of heart tightening was less than 15%in the two patients, while their life expectancy was no more than 6months.

FLH assembled its medical team, which comprised of eight cardiac surgeons, two anesthetists and two perfusionists.

It was a great challenge for the whole team of expertise to carry out such a risky operation, but luckily everything was done smoothly and in time.
