It is known that stress can lead to obesity but it is also true that obese people suffer the most stress. The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut in the US conducted a study on 41,218 adults, collecting detailed records of their lives. The data showed the moments when they had suffered the most stress. The results showed that obese people experienced more "stressful life events".
Obesity not only affects women’s health but also her whole life, new study found. Researchers found that because of many stressful events, overweight women are driven to comfort-eating which only perpetuates the problem and they are more likely to lose their jobs. They are more likely to be victim of crime and criminals.
They have also money problems.
The researcher said that women experienced the highest level of stress at their work place where they felt more discriminated against than their overweight male colleagues. Obese men also suffered more than slim men but the difference was much greater in women. “Stress can lead to obesity. But the opposite is also true with the seriously overweight suffering the most stress by contributing to poor health or social factors like workplace discrimination,” said Nancy Petry, one of the researchers.
