A baby girl, who was found dumped near the main street of Tennant Creek in the beginning of this month, has been sent to the department of health and families.
According to the police, the four-month-old baby was found by a woman in Davidson Walk at around 8 pm on Friday night.
Before being sent to the health department, the baby was taken to the Tennant Creek hospital by the police.
Till Saturday, the police remained unable to find the baby’s mother.
The baby’s sibling was also sent to the department of health.
Police say they are not laying any charges in relation to the incident and the matter is now in the hands of the department.
The Northern Territory inquiry into child protection is going to take up a public hearing in Tennant Creek today.
A common citizen who witnessed the incident while the police took the baby girl along described it to be disgusting.
"Davidson Walk is not far from the pubs so I assumed that the mother had dumped the kid and gone off to drink", he said.
The person further said that the child was lucky enough to get saved from the attack of stray dogs and the snakes roaming around the garden.
