After some bitter criticism of the multi-channel funded video-on-demand service, popularized as Project Canvas, recently came to light, much of which was thrown by other media providers like BSkyB and Virgin Media, there are good chances that the Office for Fair Trading (OFT) would be looking into the service.
Project Canvas is being viewed as the next step up from the already doomed and criticized Project Kangaroo.
The new project is backed by major media players - BBC, BT, Channel Five, ITV and TalkTalk.
So far, the service has been scrutinized by the BBC Trust, and before the OFT can start an in-depth probe into Project Canvas, it has to be determined if it qualifies to be looked at closely in the first place.
As per the present guidelines, a service has to have a predicted turnover of more than 70 Million Pounds or must command 20% of the UK VoD market.
