Many people across America and the world are expressing concerns and worries over President Barack Obama's healthcare bill. While some are worried about the cost factor involved in the bill, some others are concerned that the whole policy is flawed to begin with and would end up doing more harm than good.
There is another nuance of the Obama Administration's healthcare bill that is not only worrying people, but might just end up igniting another debate and discussion altogether. As per the requirements of the bill, menus of chains which have 20 or more eateries under their own name should display the calories alongside each item that has been mentioned.
This could end up becoming quite a mood killer, don't you think? While the intent behind the idea is all nice and clear, the implementation, I feel, would not be as pretty as is being imagined. Those who support the idea are all praises about how the Government is finally caring about what the people eat and how things can be made better.
Those who are not too happy about the whole affair seem to think that there is no reason why each calorie has to be mentioned alongside each food, mainly because when one goes out to eat, the main intent is to have fun and not count the calories. In this way, the numbers staring straight at you is a feeling which is bound to be uneasy and unpleasant.
For all those who feel that this is a good thing, many congratulations, and for all those (like me) who feel that counting calories is a mood killer, maybe we should just not look at the other side of the menu and just order what we want to, and then try and burn the extra calories the next day!
