It was been declared that Los Angeles is credited with sporting more Energy Star- rated buildings than any other city in the United States. This was reported by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Tuesday.
The report ranked the top 25 cities in the U. S. The criterion for ranking was the number of Energy Star-rated buildings within the city.
Los Angeles, has maintained its rank of first place since last year.
It boasts of 293 Energy Star-labeled buildings. Washington D. C. and San Francisco (173) come in second and third respectively.
Earlier, the Energy Star label has been awarded to buildings since 1999. Besides buildings the rating is also granted to electronic goods, appliances and enterprise servers.
The requirements to obtain Energy Star-labeled ratings are different. Just as the requirements for appliances are different the prerequisites for buildings are also different.
There 13 diverse classes for commercial buildings which comprise hospitals, retail stores, supermarkets, office buildings, and schools.
Maura Beard, Spokesperson for EPA declared that in 1999 the Energy Star program was launched. It was meant to assist owners of public buildings in saving money and cutting greenhouse gas emission by improving the energy efficiency.
