Fructose More Fattening than Sugar

Fructose is far more fattening that sugar, according to the scientists at Princeton. An experiment was conducted on lab rats, which were fed high-fructose corn syrup. They become as plum as a balloon.

The rats who had access to high-fructose corn syrup managed to gain more weight as compared to the rats that were given table-sugar, despite the fact that their calorie intake was same.

The scientists also revealed that long-term consumption of high-fructose corn syrup resulted in increased body fat, especially in the abdomen. Fructose can also be held responsible in increasing the circulation of blood fats called triglycerides.

This study is surely a boon as it enables the scientists to find factors that are contributing to obesity trends in the United States lately.

The Psychology Professor Bart Hoebel said, “Some people have claimed that high-fructose corn syrup is no different than other sweeteners when it comes to weight gain and obesity, but our results make it clear that this just isn't true, at least under the conditions of our tests”.

He concludes saying that when rats are drinking high-fructose corn syrup at levels well below those in soda pop, they're becoming obese, but if they are fed with a high-fat diet, this does not happen and they fail to gain those extra pounds on their body.
