After being weighed at the primary school, Kaisha Joyce was confirmed to be overweight which followed the posting of a letter to her mother Kellie Pickering. This practice of sending letters to the parents is strongly being criticized by the National Obesity Forum which has urged the Department of Health to withdraw the system of sending such letters.

It has been reported that the weight measurements are based on the results by a computer rather than a by a nurse or a doctor. The measurements by the computer carry a possibility of being inaccurate.

Tam Fry, Honorary Chairman, Child Growth Foundation said, "It's disgraceful that parents should be getting this letter about their child without anybody having seen the child to see if it is appropriate".

He further complained on the behalf of the thousands of families across the country who might be receiving these letters.

It creates a fear among the parents who are told to do something about their child becoming fat. The system has been deemed as inappropriate and the authorities being urged to withdraw the current rules. The Department of Health is being criticized over the issue as they did not put the content of the letters under scrutiny.
