Northwestern Doctors' Group's Patients Now Hit by Identity-Theft Ring

Authorities have shared that a notorious group of identity thieves recently boasted of their purchases in Facebook photographs, that showed them adorning flashy and shiny jewels, while eating at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in their branded clothes, with the tags still attached.

In what the Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart described as a "sophisticated identity-theft ring", reports are that a janitor ended up stealing sensitive data from as many as 250 patient files housed at a Northwestern University physicians' group. Further, he, with a little help from his two sisters and some friends, used the personal information to charge over $300,000 in jewelry, furniture, electronics, and much more.

The goods purchased were then sold to friends and relatives, and all the profits went straight to their pockets.

Till now, as many as 7 involved suspects have been placed under arrest, while three others, including janitor Tijuana Leonard, are wanted by the authorities on a felony warrant. All the details have been shared by the Sheriff's Office.

"They had it down to a science. They performed it like a job", Officer Dart said.
