Shots fired on Greek suburban train

Athens  - Shots were fired on a train travelling on a suburban line in the capital Athens, news reports said Friday.

The shots, which were fired near the Athens suburb of Tavros on Thursday night, destroyed the windows of the middle carriage of the train, Greek radio said.

Neither the driver nor the five passengers on the train were injured. The attackers could not be identified.

It was the third incident involving firearms since the fatal police shooting of a 15-year-old teenager on December 5 triggered violent protests and rioting across the country.

On December 17 a student was slightly injured by a gunshot and on December 23 a police bus came under fire, but no-one was injured. (dpa)
