Staff Shortage now Leading to Nurses Missing Training!

Just when we thought that the over-stretched medic scenario could not get any worse, in comes a survey which reveals that due to the acute shortage of staff, nurses are now missing out on some important training, which is inclusive of basic life-support and controlling and curbing of dangerous infections like MRSA.

Dangerous practice? Of course! And can we say unethical? Definitely not to be missed! It was revealed by a poll of over 3,000 nurses for the Royal College of Nursing that 32% of them had been unable to attend the "compulsory" training as they had to immediately start working to try and make up for the staff shortage.

44% of them confirmed that lack of cover and shortage of staff was the main reasons why this had to be done.

The situation really makes us wonder about how the Government is handling all these issues. Despite of repeated awarding of one grant after another to improve the medical scenario, there are problems like staff shortages and sub-standard services. How well is the taxpayer's money being used here? Where all the grants are and why are they not being put to proper use?

The NHS has, as expected tried to defend itself by stressing that there has been a 5% increase in the staff, appraisals received and the infection control offered. Well, does not seem to be enough!

This has come, actually, as more of a shocker because it was revealed recently that the NHS has hired 12% managers. What about trying to hire some nurses then? That was substantially low.

The NHS must explain why it is choosing to put patients in dangerous situations, and not using the grants awarded in a desirable manner.
