Honda Plans to Add 400 Jobs in Ontario

Honda Canada Inc., on Tuesday, announced that it plans to introduce a second production shift to its Plant 2 facility in Alliston, Ont. - a move that is revealed to give birth to 400 jobs in 2011.

"We are pleased to be making this announcement as the Canadian economy continues to show signs of recovery", Manabu Nishimae, President and CEO of Honda Canada Inc. said in a release.

The second shift, posted to be added early next year, will boost Honda's daily output from 400 to 600 units per day.

Honda's Plant 1 manufactures the Honda Civic coupe and sedan, in addition to the Canadian-exclusive Acura CSX luxury compact sedan. The engine plant produces 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engines for the Honda Civic.

The latest data reveals that Honda's Canadian sales in February registered a boost of 33 per cent from a year ago.

In January 2009, Honda uncovered that the Alliston facility would witness a reduction of 9,000 vehicles in its production as part of a wider meltdown that introduced production in North America cut by a net of 12 per cent annually for the fiscal year ending in March 2009.
