Glaxo, Isis Consolidate to Combat Acute Diseases

In order to utilize the benefits of Isis's antisense drug discovery platform, GlaxoSmithKline has joined hands with Isis Pharmaceuticals Incorporation to curb and develop treatments for infectious and acute diseases. Antisense therapies have the objective to hinder the disease at the genetic level in order to restrict the rogue proteins to be formed.

Glaxo has agreed to pay an amount of $35 million to Isis under the terms and conditions of the contract. Isis carries the eligibility to receive an average amount of $20 million per program and addition to other payments, it also entitled to receive license fees and milestone payments of approximately $1.5 billion.

The work has been divided between the two partners. Glaxo has the responsibility to license compounds, marketing the product and for expansions and on the other hand, Isis will be receiving a double digit royalty on all the sales.

Shares of Isis stood at $10.30 in Nasdaq's latest trading session.
