The Heart and Stroke Foundation data claims that in the past 30 years, obesity rates in Canada have nearly touched a double level and, in some age groups, even tripled the level.

“Obesity and overweight have become one of the leading public health concerns in Canada”, said Dr. Marco Di Buono, Research Director for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, which recently conducted a poll involving
2,000 Canadians to reach the conclusions.

Sixty-two per cent of involved revealed that they intentionally lost five or more pounds over the last two years however, were unable to keep the weight off. Also, 70 per cent of those who were overweight or obese failed to keep their weight balanced.

It is reported that Canadians, in the age bracket of 20 to 39, are a new vulnerability group because 3 million are couch potatoes, 2.5 million are fat, and 2 million are smokers.

Marco cites that presence of surplus body fat around your waist can render one at a boosted risk of high blood pressure, unhealthy cholesterol levels and type-2 diabetes, increasing your risk of heart disease and stroke.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation is reported to have launched the Heart&Stroke Healthy Weight Action Plan — a free, personalized, 12-session online resource, aimed to assist Canadians get and maintain a healthy weight.
