A little girl who defied the odds during an organ transplant drama last spring is reported to return back to hospital Wednesday breathing on her own, after she was taken off a ventilator, according to the girl’s parents.

Baby Kaylee Vitelli was reportedly placed on a ventilator in hospital on Tuesday when doctors found her oxygen levels dropping. However, she faced seizures during the night and was eventually taken off of the ventilator on Wednesday.

Her case was all over the headlines last April when her parents, Jason Wallace and Chrystal Vitelli, agreed to have their child, then an infant, taken off a life support device seeking to donate her heart to another infant.

Her parents were critical of Sick Kids’ staff for taking Kaylee off the ventilator.

Pointing to a video of his daughter’s heavy breathing, Wallace said outside Sick Kids Wednesday, “If they keep leaving her like this, she’s going to give up”.

Soon after posting reporters that they were in talks with lawyers about their daughter’s treatment, their alleged bitterness took the form of appreciation for the hospital.
