Sri Ganga Ram Hospital, in an effort of creating public concern and for educating people about the necessity of organ donations, is organizing a public Rally which will see at least 1,000 participants. The participants will include doctors and their families initiating the 2 km walk t at 8 a. m. from Noida to Akshardham Temple's assembly hall.
The rally was announced by the hospital on Wednesday on the occasion of the successful execution of 500 transplant operations by the Liver Transplant Team of the hospital.
Indian society faces a problem of denial of transplanting organs and this problem can only be tackled if the society is aware enough regarding this issue, said Sanjiv Saigal, Chief Transplant Hepatologist of hospital. He further added that the rally basically aims at persuading people for transplanting by making them realize that “donating organs is a very noble cause” and also that people should not “hesitate to volunteer”.
It was also informed by the hospital that to last year about 25000 donors were required for 100,000 transplants while merely 110 were available.
It is very important the families of accident victims who suffer brain deaths, have organs functional and therefore can be a great help for saving some other lives, recommended S. Nundy, Surgical Gastroenterology Department.
