According to Statistics, "One in 110 children born in the United States today is diagnosed with autism, and the numbers keep growing".
Autism is a neurological disorder, due to which the individual faces difficulty in communicating. It affects the individual's social interaction and leisure activities. The symptoms of autism usually manifest in the first three years of an individual's life.
Most people generally consider Autism as a psychological disorder, as many of its characteristic traits seem to be psychological. But over time, it was discovered it is a neurological disorder.
People suffering from Autism deserve more attention and acceptance. More research is needed, as well as programs that would provide housing and employment to help the aging Autism population.
The UN General Assembly on Dec. 18, 2007, decided on setting April 2 as the World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD). "Stand up for Autism" is the theme of WAAD this year.
