The mammoth £12.7bn program designed to upgrade NHS technology is facing more tribulations after the chief supplier to the program, CSC, failed to meet its deadline. The program boasts of establishing an electronic medical record.
However, iSoft, whose software technology CSC will be employing for the electronic record, stated that it was certain that their technology will go live in May of this year.
After CSC fell short of meeting the deadline it was warned by Christine Connelly, the Chief Information Officer in the Health Department, that NHS cannot wait indefinitely for a successful installation of the Lorenzo software.
Initially the deployment of the software was slated for June 2008, which failed to happen.
Connelly declared that if CSC did not fabricate a reliable plan to make the system operational, the department had the prerogative of cancelling that element of the contract. This would give hospitals the choice of picking out other suppliers.
It has been noted that CSC’s failure to deploy Lorenzo installed is a foremost reason of the postponement of the program. At present the program is four or five years late.
