International Journalist Association Hit by Cyberattack in China

In another Chinese hacker attack, an international journalists association on Friday revealed that its website was hit with a major cyberattack. The attack has come as the latest in a range of similar ones which have affected foreign journalists in China.

In an official statement released to share about the attack, the Foreign Correspondents Club of China revealed that it has now disabled its website on temporary basis to effectively deal with the problem. This happened after there were persistent attacks over a two day period which involved a flood of traffic that managed to overwhelm the servers.

Although these attacks do end up making a website inaccessible to visitors, these are not as dangerous as the ones which aim at stealing unauthorized information and gaining access to a site's administration.

The group, which currently has about 400 members and lists the improvement of working conditions for journalists who are in China as one of its biggest priorities, has revealed that it still does not know the motive of the attack, and neither does it know from where the attack originated. All that the group knows is that they were routed through Chinese and American servers.

"We do not know who is behind the attacks or what their motivation is", the group's board said.
