Canadian Cancer Society Celebrates April as Cancer Awareness Month

Bright yellow daffodils are known as the symbol of the cancer society's campaign of hope. This month, volunteers from the Canadian Cancer Society would be going door to door giving away bouquets of bright yellow daffodils and raising funds for various cancer support programs.

Cancer Awareness Month is the organization's longest running effort, and it manages to raise the most funds.

"Approximately two in five Canadians will develop cancer during their lifetime, but today 62 per cent will survive thanks to Canadians' ongoing support in the fight against cancer", said Charlene Hayes, Senior Manager of Revenue Development for the Canadian Cancer Society in New Brunswick.

The reason for late arrival of daffodils this month is the cold temperature in the United Kingdom. For New Brunswick about 40,000 bunches of flowers were ordered. Each bunch contained 10 flowers. Because the flowers reached a little late than usual the campaign would start a little late.

By visiting Canada's Cancer Society's district offices in Edmundston, Bathurst, Fredericton, Moncton and Saint John or by calling 1-800-455-9090 the Daffodils can still be pre-ordered.
