The name Windows 7 Series would not be sold with the same name from the planned season of selling this year by Microsoft. It is therefore going to be known as Windows Phone 7.

This operating method was better known as Windows Mobile 6.5, previously, until the time when Microsoft was in the process of making a touchscreen smartphone in order to be in competition with Apple’s iPhone.

The information regarding the alterations was known via Twitter.

The change made in the name is merely because of the feedback which consumers gave in a survey. People have wanted to call it by a simpler name, said one of the representatives of Microsoft.

Windows Phone is an OS, it's not a telephone. The thought was that there was a need to refer to the equipments that would run Windows Phone 7.

At present, in many of the coverage and a lot of the handling cases, that perspective, mostly went astray. People started believing that the software was Windows Phone 7 Series, while actually that was merely an attempt to refer to the equipments that would help in running Windows Phone 7.
