The staff of Temple University Hospital was reminded of their commitment of "quality, safe care" that is the first priority towards the patients, by the CEO Sandy Gomberg on the third day of the strike by nurses, technicians and other professional workers. The strike has not affected the operating schedule of the hospital as the operations are being continued even in the strike.
The strike ignited on Wednesday, after the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals could not reach a common decision regarding the replacement of previous deal that expired in September. The issues highlighted in the strike include wages, health benefits, staffing levels and public comment restrictions and the strike has been joined by 1,500 members.
Gomberg stated that after the notice for the strike from the union was received, the operation plans were resumed. Gomberg also said that this was the proof of the ability of "providing uninterrupted quality care to our patients".
The nurses union also held press conference regarding the North Philadelphia medical center called for verification of nurses hired by Temple that had "competencies properly validated". Union also urged for a deep investigation by the Health Department of the violation by Temple regarding licensure of nurses.
850 temporary workers are hired by Temple for replacement of the workers on strike.
