PIP Breast implants Recalled Following Reports of Unauthorized Silicone Used in Manufacturing
Poly Implant Prothese

Using non-authorized silicone gel has led to a recall of the products of the Poly Implant Prothese (PIP), a French implant brand company. The charges are that PIP manufactured the implants illegally using unauthorized silicone gel.

The fresh sales of the implant were also ceased to be ordered by AFSSAPS, the agency supervising health care products. It is known that about 90% of PIP's breast implants are exported.

Jean-Claude Ghislain of AFSSAPS revealed that around 45,000 women were provided the implant by French company since 2001. It is also being recommended that females who are presently using the implants should consult their doctors.

The investigation was initiated following the reports of high rapture rates of the PIP implants and finally PIP was found to be using silicone gel not recommended by health authorities.

After the recall was issued in France and Sweden, it is also being recommended in Australia. In France, the recall was initiated on Tuesday as a French court the ordered that the company should be shut down.

On the other hand, Australian College of Cosmetic surgeons CEO Dr. John Flynn stated that there was no recall in Australia presently as the Therapeutic Goods Association is to conduct a risk evaluation.
