Visa Expresses Strong Discontentment over Removal of Credit Option by Woolworths

Visa has expressed strong discontentment over a decision made by Woolworths.

Woolworths has taken a decision to eliminate the credit option when customers make their payments with a Visa Debit card at any of its outlets. Commenting on the issue, Visa stated that it is "extremely disappointed" by the Supermarket giant's move.

The newly made change will have an effect on scheme debit cards, which are issued by banks and credit unions that come with either a Visa or MasterCard logo and the word "debit", which is printed to make a distinction between them and other credit cards.

Customers using the aforementioned cards have previously had the option of using the credit button while paying at any of the Woolworths outlets.

From now on, customers will be needed to press on the "cheque" or "savings" buttons, in order to access their savings via the EFTPOS network.

In a statement, Visa said Woolworths was previously slated to direct all debit transactions through the EFTPOS network, as a cost cutting measure.
