The commitment of WestJet Airlines Ltd. and Southwest Airlines Co. for working together does not seem to be going the right track. On one hand, Dallas-based Southwest is not happy because it thinks that WestJet is stabbing to revamp the terms that were there in the original agreement.
And on the other hand, Southwest is also dissatisfied as its Calgary-based carrier partner recently decided to tail a partnership with Delta Air Lines Inc. of Atlanta, that too without forming special WestJet-Southwest arrangement that was planned to be meant for across the border flights.
Bob Jordan, Southwest's Executive Vice-President of Strategy, stated that in recent weeks, WestJet has been asking for inacceptable alterations in the initial pact agreement and also the Southwest wants, as it always have desired to move forward to implement agreement with WestJet.
The deal of "sharing code" was signed in July, 2008, between the two, and intended at that a better co-operation regarding flights, electronic ticketing and baggage handling.
WestJet's new Chief Executive Officer Gregg Saretsky, said that there was no problem from their side, all the trouble was coming from the Southwest's side.
Mr. Saretsky stated, that Southwest last year said that they wanted to put the code-share aside for some time as they had some other priorities and now Southwest has refused to go with WestJet for the deal further.
