40 Patients in Johor Diagnosed with H1N1 since January

Reports have stated that, since the beginning of January 2010, there were about 40 patients’ diagnosed with Influenza A (H1N1) in Johor.

According to State Health Director, Dr Mohd Khairi Yaakub, each infection took place within the state.

The patients were quarantined and treated at the state hospitals and there were no deaths.

It was said that continuous preventive measures would be taken by performing tests at the entry/exit points in the state.

Preventive steps like wearing face masks at open places and getting health checks while suffering from cough or cold was recommended.

Dr Mohd Khairi Yaakub stated, “The people must not be complacent by thinking that the virus is not around anymore. They must always be on their guard to prevent infection or spread of the virus”.

After 691 cases recorded in the beginning of 2010 with three deaths, he advised people to make sure of keeping their environment clean to prevent breeding of the Aedes mosquito.

The state Veterinary Services Department in Terengganu said that it would supervise the migratory birds by catching and observing them in order to avert the spread of Influenza A (H1N1) in the state.

It has been said that today, Dr Azizol Mohd Sharun asked his officers to take the action, as birds can be one of the carriers of the H1N1 virus.

After a woman and daughter suffering from influenza-like illness, died in Malacca recently, these precautionary measures have been taken.
