A study has claimed that after the demise of a loved one, a course of comforting massages once in a week, for eight weeks, can help let go the sorrow in that person.
As a part of their analysis, researchers monitored a total of 18 Swedish people, of which 11 were women and 7 were men, all aged between 35 and 75 years. All of them had lost a family member to cancer. While some of the subjects favored for a hand massage, there were some who opted for a foot massage instead.
The subjects underwent a course of a 25-minute hand or foot massage, for one day in a week, for eight weeks. They were then told to loosen up for an additional half an hour.
The relatives, during their interview, stated that they derived substantial relaxation from the eight-week course.
The results of the study showed that soft tissue massage did have hand in relieving grieved people, give them something that would comfort them and provide rest. This concludes that soft tissue massage emerges to be a good option for relatives to get over their grief.
