UK Government has announced that a £30 million funding will be provided for Palliative care for children in UK this year.
Andy Burnham, Secretary for State of Health, said that £15 million of the total grant money will go to hospices for children. The other £15 million will be, given out to palliative care within the National Health Service, focusing on the community children's nurses, he said.
Mr. Burnham said that home care can help in attaining improved results and also save money. He said that kids, in times of crisis, want their parents nearby at all times and the said declaration helps realize that.
Barbara Gelb, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Children's Hospices UK, though gladly welcoming the boost as a result of the grant, was cautious about the whole situation, stating that hospices still rely on the public funds.
“This tremendous boost will enable children's hospice services in England to increase the invaluable support they give to children, young people and families in their own homes. However, children's hospices will still rely overwhelmingly on their local communities for funding”, Ms. Gelb said.
