Newly Designed Artificial Limbs Distributed to Seven Disabled People

Newly designed artificial limbs were distributed free of cost to seven disabled people on Saturday by the Rotary Club of Ahmadabad North, in association with the Blind People's Association.

The organizers shared that these new low-cost artificial limbs are specially made for those who are suffering from below-elbow amputation and these have been introduced in Gujarat for the first time. The alternative which is effective is robotic limb which is very costly to be easily afforded.

Mohan Kamath, President of Rotary Club, Ahmadabad North said, "It (the new limb) will help them perform basic functions like driving car, drinking water and writing. It has a simple lever function which enables the person to hold an object".

The artificial limb under the name of Rotary LN - 4, is a joint project of Rotary Club of Walnut Creek Sunrise in California and the Ellen Meadows Prosthetic Hand Foundation, USA.

Kamath further added that they have planned to take it up as a permanent project after getting a positive response from people. Seven people have been registered presently.

Sonal Suthar, who is 19, is able to operate a laptop with the help of a rotary LN-4 prosthetic hand, as she gave a live demonstration in Ahmadabad.
