Pharmaceutical Society and Royal New Zealand College Improve Use of Medicines

The treaty between the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand and the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners is planning to improve the use of medicines.

In the recent years, it has been seen that a lot of medicines have been wasted. This happens because when the medicine is prescribed it is either not taken by the patient at all or it is not taken according to the instructions given by the doctor.

In a recent meeting, Otago board was told that the public should not be advised about the pharmacies that are not signed to the latest funding contract.

It was announced by the board management this year, that all the pharmacies that do not get their contracts signed by the end of March would not get paid by the board for the dispensed drugs or the dispensing fee.

David Chrisp, who is the general manager of planning and funding, said that he was sure that all contracts would be signed.

Don Anderson who is a pharmacist in Dunedin, said that he had not been paid for the extra services and he had been taking a note of them. He also mentioned that every month he is planning to send the bill to the board.
