According to the activity index displayed by Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply the construction sector in Britain has reported some growth for the first time since 2008, after its consistent contraction finally came to an end, last month.
The report also suggested that there has been a remarkable surge in new orders hitting the sector.
The index spotted a reading of 53.1 in March, risen from 48.5 in February. Here, a reading of 50 or above shows growth.
In particular, residential building contractors posted the strongest growth in orders with the expansion continuing for to the seventh month, consecutively. Also, the commercial sector witnessed growth for the first time over the last two years.
However, the decline in employment rate in the construction sector, last month, has depicted a weakness in the sector's recovery.
David Noble, CIPS's Chief Executive opined that the growth is in its infancy, so the concerns over the economic recovery are till prevailing.
"The recession hit construction the hardest and because the industry is operating from such a low base, this upturn may be short-lived", he said.
