One of the most honorable medical prizes which are awarded to various people is the Canada Gairdner Award.
A well-known Londoner physician has been awarded with this honor. Dr. Cal Stiller, a leader in Organ Transplant and Diabetes Research, and an innovator in the Canadian Biotech Industry received the Canada Gairdner Wightman Award. However, Stiller thinks that he is just an ordinary physician.
The award which Dr. Stiller has received is particularly given to the leaders in Canadian medicine.
Regardless of the pioneering and life saving research that he conducted, Stiller was humbled and amazed by the award he received. He never imagined that he would receive such an honorable award and that this whole experience has been completely bizarre for him.
Stiller has a long list of achievements in research and society service. At present, he is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Western Ontario. He also founded and controlled the multi-organ transplant service in London starting from 1984 to 1996.
The research, which he had been carrying on, discovered the significance of the medicine cyclosporine, to end negative response of transplanted organs. He maneuvered the municipal crusade for organ donation and donor cards.
