The Debate Over Dangers of Tanning Beds, the Government Intervenes

Tanning beds have recently been declared dangerous by the authorities, after the WHO stressed that these can be directly linked with the development of some of the most serious forms of skin cancer. Now, the authorities are trying to take things into their own hands.

London MPP Khalil Ramal is reportedly going to re-introduced a private member's bill in order to regulate the tanning industry. It seems he wants to ban all under-18s from using these self-tanning devices.

Although people have been alarmed by the WHO warnings, many still believe that the Government should not be interfering with this, while experts feel that there is urgent need to set some rules and ask the tanning sector to adhere to them.

Some have stressed that while tans do look good, they are not worth risking lives for.

The concept is still being debated heavily, and the bill will soon be put forward according to which, there would be governance on who can use these beds. In addition, tanning salons would be required to employ trained staff only.

As per the Ontario Medical Association, tanning beds can trigger deadly skin cancer, and there is a "lingering notion tanning beds are safer than the sun''.
