Smart Gate System Launched

It was told by Brendan O'Connor, the Federal Minister for Home Affairs, that if the new facial recognition technology is introduced in the airports it would speed up passengers' arrival process at the Gold Coast Airport.

The new system, known as the Smart Gate System, is now officially launched in Australia and New Zealand. The passengers are managed without needing input from customs offers at the passport control. It is very convenient and self service to check passports.

This system matches the facial biometric data with the passenger's passport. To do this, the passport needs to be properly placed under a certain part near the check gate. The passenger can pass through the gate if the photograph of the person matched the passport photograph.

In all the international airports across Australia this technology would be introduced soon. The first place where this system was introduced was Brisbane in August 2007 whereas the Gold Coast would be the seventh one to get this system installed at the airport.

Gold Coast is the fastest growing airport in the country.
