Tasmanian Health Authorities Urging People to Get Themselves Vaccinated for H1N1

Heath authorities from Tasmania are again laying stress on swine flu, urging the people of Tasmania to get their swine flu/H1N1 vaccinations this winter.

Tasmanian Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance's Graeme Lynch revealed that so far this year, 50 swine flu cases have already been reported in Australia. Lynch was quoted as saying, “It's really important for people, particularly those people who suffer from chronic disease, to make sure that they are immunized against swine flu and against influenza generally”.

He says that the goal is not to treat people who are already sick, but is in fact to protect their health instead. The mission is to promote good health and good living; part of doing that is taking necessary precautions against diseases like influenza, Lynch said.

Authorities at the Tasmanian Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance are of the opinion that swine flu is going to be Tasmania's main type of influenza for the rest of the year.

According to the reports released by the World Health Organization dated 28 March 2010, it is still carrying on the monitoring process of the progression of the pandemic.

All Tasmanians older than six months are being provided with free vaccinations.
