Exercise has been credited to keep the body fit and healthy but a new study has revealed that it also lets a person stay away from depression and anxiety. A research programmed was conducted at the Anxiety Research and Treatment Program at Southern Methodist University at Dallas which revealed that it can act to be a therapy to get relief from depression and keeps it at bay
The group of researchers declared that few sets of regular exercise can be a stress buster and can help elevate the depressive moods of patients. They have compared exercise with anti-depressant tablets which generates positive feelings and thoughts in the minds of the people. Both can cure the negative feelings by hitting on the neurotransmitter system in the human brain.
Jasper Smits, Director of the University at Dallas said, “Exercise appears to affect, like an anti-depressant, particular neurotransmitter systems in the brain and it helps patients with depression re-establish positive behaviours.”
The conclusion of the study was unleashed at the annual conference of the Anxiety Disorder Association of America. The conference took place in Baltimore. The study has confirmed that regular exercise monitors blood pressure, enhances power of bones and changes the irregular sleeping patterns. It is most inexpensive way to get rid of depression for those who cannot afford the expensive treatment.
The study has stressed that the exercise level should not be increased immediately but gradually.
