Dutch researchers have revealed that genetic fault could lead to inherited deafness. The research says that parents who suffer from hereditary conditions would double the chances of the children acquiring the disorder.
The study has been published in the American Journal of Human Genetics.
The genetic fault could result in issues during the child’s upbringing and a change can happen in the children behaviorally and could lead to developmental problems and poor academic achievement.
The scientists at Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre analyzed and assessed the DNA of the suffering families in order to find out any shared genetic characteristics. With their assessment, they came across this latest gene.
It has been reported that the researchers were able to find out 60 known locations in the DNA which could comprise of the defective genes, which is a major contributor to inherited deafness. More research is being required to identify the remaining genes which actually cause the difficulty.
Dr. Hannie Kremer, lead researcher, said, “Our approach is identifying more genes for congenital deafness. This knowledge will help improve treatments for patients, genetic counseling, molecular diagnosis and the development of advanced therapeutic strategies".
The scientists are hopeful that the study will make a huge contribution for restoring hearing.
