Sausages recalled due to fear of contamination with Listeria

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Thursday that 750 pounds of sausage products has been recalled by T. Piekutowski European Style Sausage.

The reason behind this recall is the possible contamination with Listeria, a bacterium that can cause a fatal infection.

Department's Food Safety and Inspection Service said that the tainted goods were sold at the establishment's retail counter in St. Louis, Missouri. Consumers could have bought them on December 18 and 19.

Official statement said that people who bought these sausage products must be aware of the fact that consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease.
