Statistics reveal that the number of newly registered cars in the UK has increased for the ninth successive month. There has been a rise of 26.6% in March in comparison with the sales of cars during the same period last year.
Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) report that the total registrations for the month numbered of March was 397,383. Most companies also reported of achieving record sales in the month of March.
The most selling cars were small cars and super minis. Ford's Fiesta and Focus topped the selling charts. These two were followed by Vauxhall's Astra and Focus. Ford has maintained its top position throughout 2010.
SMMT Chief Executive Paul Everitt remarked, "The coming months will remain challenging and headline registration numbers are expected to dip, but underlying demand will continue to improve slowly".
Everitt also stated that the sales have been better than anticipated. The industry had not expected such numbers.
It has been reported that the sales of all types showed a rising trend from the start of the year. It was the private sector posted the biggest rise of 33.5% in the month and 37.8% in the first quarter of the year.
These remarkable sales figures are proof of the growing economy of UK. The spending capacity of the citizens is a testament that UK is fast emerging out of the recession. Earlier reports had also claimed that the economic growth in the UK is accelerating at such a fast pace that leaving aside Canada; the country would soon beat all its other G7 rivals.
The G7 group comprises Canada, France, Germany, Italy Japan United Kingdom, and United States. All other G7 countries are reeling from the effects of the recession. UK is the only country that has managed to rise from the Ashes.
