U. S online movie rental company Netflix, Inc. Friday announced to have undergone distribution deals with major movie studios Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp., that is reported to permit Netflix access to rent DVDs and Blu-ray films 28 days after new releases strike the stores for sale.
In addition, the deal with News Corp's Twentieth Century Fox involves a first-time streaming license for Fox TV shows, the two companies uncovered in a joint statement.
According to the deal, Netflix would get a large number of units and better in-stock levels from Universal after the four-week period and get access to more of the studio's movies for customers to stream.
The first release included in the new deal with Universal is the comedy "It's Complicated", which will be released in stores on April 27.
"Our intent is to forge agreements that make sense for the companies involved and that, on the whole, improve the consumer experience and the movie ecosystem. We believe the Universal deals accomplish that", quoted, Chief Content Officer for Netflix Ted Sarandos.
However, Netflix, Universal Studios and Twentieth Century Fox were reported to be unavailable for comment.
