Inferior Coverage for Students at Excessive Costs
Inferior Coverage for Students at Excessive Costs

On Thursday, state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said that the health plans sponsored to the colleges, offered less coverage at more cost.

He said that the plans which were necessary in the colleges did not give full coverage to the students.

''A bad health insurance plan can have catastrophic and long-lasting effects on a young person's life. By being informed of the problematic practices that currently exist in the industry, schools can negotiate for better health plans'', said Cuomo.

All the health problems are not covered in the plans that students go through, like getting injuries when drunk or attempting suicide. It has been seen that some plans cover everything for less than $25,000, whereas others have pre-illness cap at $700. The drugs that are prescribed by the doctor are not included in the plan by some.

It was told by Cuomo that the student could get a plan for less than $100 a year or as much as $2,500.

The revenue made by the student health insurance is more than $1 billion per year. It has also been noted that the insurance companies insure about 1 million students with such plans.
